John Gatewood was born and raised in Washington, D.C., along with his 12 other brothers and sisters. During his Vice Presidency, LBJ (Lyndon B. Johnson) was John’s next-door neighbor. John’s educational background includes:
John played for Northwestern University´s soccer team, and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, (SAE). He also played the guitar and sang in nightclubs in Washington, D. C. during the mid1970’s. John speaks fluent Spanish and studied in Mexico from 1970-1971 at the Centro Escolar Cedros. In 1986, John retired (temporarily) from his successful business and donated his entire income for six years to help ICU (Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria) and Midtown Educational Foundation (Chicago) run projects in Eastern Europe, (both before and after Communism), and in various inner cities of the U.S. assisting outreach programs for the poor and disadvantaged. John resides in Clayton with his wife, Annie, and two beautiful children, Anthony and Sophia. John has coached his children’s sports teams:
Anthony attends Glenholme School in Connecticut, and Sophia attends Villa Duchesne High School in St. Louis. Hobbies Physical fitness is important to John and his family. John works out regularly at the Missouri Athletic Club, (MAC) and the Clayton Center. Annie and Sophia participate in the MAC’s tennis and other social activities. Anthony played Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse for Clayton High School. John and Annie look forward to traveling each year. Golf is another pastime that John has enjoyed over the years. John grew up playing Congressional Country Club in Potomac, Maryland, and caddied in the 1976 PGA Tournament. Music, boating, reading,outdoor activities, other sporting events, and spending quality time with family and friends are all important to John. Motivation John rejuvenates himself daily by reading books, listening to motivational CD’s and prayer.
